Description:
Arashi's Sho Sakurai made his debut in Casa BRUTUS in September 2010 with a feature titled "To Naoshima, the Sacred Ground of Architecture & Art," where he visited various facilities in the Seto Inland Sea region, including museums designed by architect Tadao Ando. Beginning with the March 2011 issue, he launched a serialized column called "Sho Sakurai's Journey to Learn Architecture," which continues to this day. Throughout the 15-year series, Sakurai has visited over 150 architectural sites and encountered renowned Japanese architects celebrated worldwide, including Tadao Ando, Toyo Ito, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Kengo Kuma, Terunobu Fujimori, SANAA, Shigeru Ban, Sou Fujimoto, Junya Ishigami, and Tsuyoshi Tane, deepening his knowledge of architecture. Now, as this 15-year serialization is being compiled into a book, we are publishing "Sho Sakurai's Journey Through Architecture: Contemporary Architecture Edition," organizing his visits to modern architectural works by architect. Regarding the publication, Sakurai shared his thoughts: "The Casa BRUTUS serialization is finally becoming a book as 'Sho Sakurai's Journey Through Architecture.' I've always hoped to compile it into a book someday, so making that dream a reality is truly a long-held wish! And true to the spirit of 'a journey to learn architecture,' I've been learning from a position of not knowing much about buildings, so I hope people unfamiliar with architecture will also find it enjoyable. At the same time, I always think that no matter how beautiful the photographs or eloquent the descriptions, there are limits to conveying architecture's appeal through images and words alone. Actually visiting these places is irreplaceable, so I hope this book becomes a catalyst for everyone to experience architecture firsthand. There's an emotional impact that goes beyond what the pages can convey. This is Sho Sakurai's first and long-awaited book—we hope you'll look forward to it!"
