Description:
Melos lived peacefully tending sheep in a village until the day he visited the city of Syracuse to see his friend. Shocked by the lifeless and transformed state of the once-vibrant city, he discovers that a king who cannot trust people has cast innocent citizens into fear and despair. Trembling with rage, Melos rushes to confront the king to save the people. This is Osamu Dazai's representative short novel, depicting the friendship between young men who despise evil and trust in their companions.
