Description:
We've carefully selected easy-to-read short stories from Japanese literature to boost your English reading comprehension! Enjoy familiar masterpieces while improving your skills. Ryunosuke Akutagawa made a brilliant literary debut with his short story "The Nose," which earned high praise from Soseki Natsume. He went on to publish works like "Rashomon," "A Dish of Noodles," and "In a Grove"—tales inspired by Konjaku Monogatari and Chinese folklore—as well as the fairy tale "Daidokushu," becoming a celebrated figure in the Taisho literary world. This collection features three of Akutagawa's masterpieces that skillfully depict the depths of human karma: "Daidokushu," "The Nose," and "In a Grove." Each page includes a word list of key phrases and expressions at the bottom for instant vocabulary reference. Active high school English teacher Takafumi Izumida provides English explanations, extracting and clarifying expressions and important vocabulary frequently found in TOEIC and real business contexts. The English text is accompanied by MP3 audio recordings on CD-ROM, produced under the direction of an American linguist. Note: This CD-ROM contains MP3 format files that can be played on computers and MP3 players. Please refer to your device's manual for instructions on transferring and playing MP3 files. This disc cannot be played on standard CD players. Note: Some music players may display tracks in random order.
