Description:
On a night in Kyoto, Isao Kondo and the Shinsengumi launched a surprise attack on radical loyalist samurai gathered at the Ikeda-ya inn in Sanjo. The Ikeda-ya Incident—an event said to have delayed the Meiji Restoration by a full year—is now recounted by Shinpachi Nagakura, a former Shinsengumi second squad commander who lived until 1915 and witnessed these events firsthand. In this account, told from Hokkaido's Shikotanbe region, Nagakura, the man who knew the Shinsengumi best, shares the true story of this legendary militia.
