Description:
Starting July 2010, the Japanese Language Proficiency Test was revised, changing from the previous four-level system (Levels 1-4) to a five-level system (N1-N5). This book is a newly revised edition aligned with this change. Taking the new proficiency test into account, grammar patterns are now displayed in five levels marked as ★1 through ★5. The standout feature of this book is undoubtedly how easy it is to find headwords. For example, in the sentence "今日を限りにたばこをやめる" (quit smoking starting today), Japanese learners often face the frustration of not being able to locate the headword when looking up grammar patterns, such as searching from the "か" in "かぎりに" without success. This book allows you to reach the headword from either the "か" in "限りに" or the "を" in "を限りに"—whichever you start with. Additionally, the "Meaning and Function Index" at the end of the book contains 54 functional categories such as "Cause/Reason," "Possibility/Ease," and "Purpose," allowing you to view similar functions side by side for each category. You can use this feature to learn the differences between similar functional expressions and their appropriate usage. Beyond its excellent dictionary function, this book has tremendous potential as an additional learning tool. Furthermore, all grammar pattern explanations include translations in three languages: English, Chinese, and Korean. This is an essential reference to carry with you for enriching your Japanese language studies and preparing for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. *This book revises the grammar pattern level designations from the May 2007 edition of "Donna Toki Dou Tsukau Nihongo Hyougen Bunpei Jiten" (changing Levels 1-4 to ★1-★5) and includes improved example sentences and explanations accordingly. Co-authors: Etsuko Tomomatsu (part-time lecturer, Takushoku University International Student Preparatory Course), Jun Miyamoto (full-time instructor, Ohara Gakuen Ohara Japanese Language Institute), and Masako Wakuri.
